Transferrable Storage Box Solution Designed for Police, Fire, EMS, Utility

While attending an IACP Conference a couple years ago, we found CTech Manufacturing a supplier of aluminum cabinets for the public-safety market. We were looking for a tactical storage cabinet that was lighter with better mounting options for our SUV upfits.

We like CTech’s CopBox and ChiefBox Tactical Cabinets designed for MID and FULL size SUV’s. There are 16 different standard sizes to choose from or you can design your own. The CopBox and ChiefBox have a QuickLink Mounting solution that make it possible to transfer the cabinet to a newer style vehicle in the future. EC12M Charges 12 Radios or Spare Batteries in an Ultra-Compact Footprint

Power Products Endura EC12M rapid charger will charge up to twelve batteries while on or off the radios. There are LED’s that provide charging status for all 12 pockets. The charger with power supply weighs only 5.5 lbs and supports all battery types including Li-ion, LiPo, NiMH, and NiCd chemistries. The TWC12M-PS external (100V-240V) AC power supply and cord is included.

The charger includes six dual replaceable pods in a small footprint measuring only 20 x 6 inches. Advanced charging technology prevents overcharging and provides automatic recharging when radio remains powered on.

The charger can be used in a vehicle too. An optional TWC6M-HW 12-24V DC hardwire kit is available along with a TWC12M-MB mounting bracket, and TWC12M-TD tie-down strap kit.

Endura EC2M Dual Radio Charger Uses Same Replaceable Pod As EC12M

The EC12M uses the same pod as the Endura EC2M dual slot charger. The pods can be changed easily when you change radios by removing a single screw. Each pod will charge two batteries for a specific radio type but don’t have to be the same chemistry.

The EC2M can be used with the optional TWC6M-HW DC hardwire kit or the TWC6M-VPA 12-24V DC vehicle power adapter. There is also an optional EC2M-MB vehicle mounting bracket.

The EC12M, EC2M, and replaceable pods are available for most radio brands including Motorola, Vertex Standard, Kenwood, Harris, Hytera, Icom, Tait, BK Technologies, and Relm. We have pricing and radio compatibility for all the EC12M and EC2M chargers available from Power Products in our web store.

Motorola Solutions announced the cancellation of several legacy Vertex Standard analog-only models this month. The VX-264, VX-451, VX-454, VX-459, VX-2100, and VX-2200 can no longer be ordered.

The popular analog VX-261, MOTOTRBO digital capable EVX-261, and EVX-S24, are not affected by this notice. Motorola still offers analog-only choices for most of the cancelled models as shown below.

Our remaining stock of VHF VX-264 and UHF VX-264 radios are marked down and a good deal for analog users needing a display with 128 channel capability. Motorola will continue to provide warranty support, depot repairs, and accessories.

The new Motorola DTR700 digital radio requires a firmware update and customer programming software.

CPS is a free Motorola download for the DTR series radios.

SL300, SL3500e, and SL7550e MOTOTRBO radios need a battery-powered remote speaker-microphone not available from Motorola Solutions until now. The new IP67 RM250 is Motorola’s first rechargeable wired RSM. It has a Kevlar reinforced coiled cord, ultra-thin head with swivel clip, 3.5mm audio jack, and Micro USB charging port. Battery life is up to 22 hours after a 2 hour charge. The PMLN7560 earpiece with acoustic tube can be used for discreet communications and surveillance.

The RM250 is not compatible with the WAVE PTT TLK 100 LTE network radio or the SLN 1000 CBRS device yet. There is a “B” version due out in December that will include them. The RM250 “A” version is available now and can be ordered online.

Globalstar recently released a new version of firmware for the Sat-Fi2 satellite hotspot that improves stability and performance. The update can be performed using the App or the Sat-Fi2 Web Console.

Sat-Fi2 is a low cost business continuity and emergency preparation solution for voice, 2-way messaging, and web access using a US based 10-digit phone number. Globalstar monthly service starts at $39.99 per month.

User must be connected to broadband or have a cellular data connection to download the update. It is not possible to perform the update by downloading the files over the Sat-Fi2 network.

SL 7000, XPR 7000/3000, SL3500e, XPR 5000/2500 Series Affected

Motorola Solutions changed their MOTOTRBO software support policy for the professional tier radios earlier this year. Essential Services premium software features and standard depot repair warranty for new radios are now provided for five years. It is possible to opt out of the 5 year depot warranty and select 2 years for a small savings.

This change started with SL/XPR 7000 series, XPR 3000 series, SL3500e, XPR 2500, and XPR 5000 series with v2.9 firmware. Premium software features are now licensed for 5 years with a new radio or until any radio shipped prior to v2.9 is still under warranty. Older radios will not accept firmware updates after v2.8 without a licensing fee.

The CP200d, SL300, EVX-261, EVX-S24, CM200d, and CM300d DMR digital radio models are not affected by this change. They could be added in the future but so far it is not clear if it will ever happen.

What Happens With Existing MOTOTRBO Radio Firmware?

Our standard practice for repairs and preventive maintenance includes upgrading every radio to the latest firmware. We are no longer able to go past v2.8 unless the radio is still under warranty. Starting with v2.10 radios will not accept the new firmware (and new features) unless a license was purchased for the serial number of the radio.

Klein Electronics announced a new aftermarket battery for the Motorola TLK 100 and SL Series MOTOTRBO radios that is compatible with Qi wireless chargers. The Qi-TLK100 battery can be used with a wired Micro-USB cable or a drop-in charger too.

The battery is compatible with the TLK 100 LTE WAVE nationwide radio, MOTOTRBO SL300. SL 3500e, SL 7550e, SL 7580e, SL 7590e, and the new SLN 1000 CBRS radio.

If you need wireless charging this is the only battery that is available. Klein uses high-quality Li-ion cells and is a leader in the communications industry. The battery is shipping now and has a 12 month warranty.

Motorola’s DTR700 900 MHz license-free radio has another firmware update available that allows users to receive new features at no charge. The Phase 2 release can be downloaded and includes new firmware, a new updater tool, and new programming software.

We frequently receive support requests from Motorola wireless speaker-mic users to change the language from French back to English. This is caused by accidently turning on the WRSM and holding the PTT button at the same time.

The mics affected are the RLN6554 and RLN6544 for APX series radios, RLN6562 for MOTOTRBO XPR/SL series DMR radios, and the RLN6551 long range wireless mic for vehicle applications.
