3M Peltor is now shipping an improved TEP-200 tactical electronic earplug designed for the military, SWAT teams, and law enforcement. Level dependent technology instantly provides hearing protection for harmful noises and also increases low sounds during quiet periods.

The earpieces now have tiny antennas that allow audio to be received wirelessly using an optional neckloop. The TEP-LOOP-200 plugs into the 3.5mm jack on the remote speaker-microphone or any other audio source. The TEP-200 earplugs are receive-only. To transmit, the user would press the push-to-talk button and speak into the microphone. The TEP-200 is rated IP67 for submersibility and lasts up to 16 hours of continuous operation.

Ultrafit 23 dB NRR and 27 dB NRR Triple-C communications eartips are included. Optional 30 dB 370-1019-10 Skull Screw eartips are available for extreme noise hearing protection.

3M also introduced the LEP-200 designed for construction and industrial workers. Although it lacks the IP67 rugged rating, it offers the same functionality as the TEP-200. The original TEP-100 without wireless connectivity is also still available.

OTTO, a high-quality 2-way radio accessory manufacturer from Carpentersville, IL recently introduced a high-temperature purpose-built shoulder microphone for the fire service. The OTTO 500 is designed to function in 500 degree heat for 5 minutes and also fully-submerged underwater for a half hour.

Bluetooth Accessories Require Latest Firmware for Best Performance

Motorola wireless accessories use a pod with APX, XTS, XPR, and SL 7000 series radios. The pod can be used as a stand-alone wireless push-to-talk (PTT) or power a surveillance kit, earbud, and also connect with the completely discreet earpiece. The pod has internal firmware that can be updated by the user to take advantage of the latest software release from Motorola.

Motorola Entry-Tier Commercial Portfolio Expands With Select Vertex Models

Motorola Solutions will retire the Vertex Standard brand this month. The digital eVerge EVX-261, EVX-S24, analog VX-260 series, VX-450 series, VX-2100, and VX-2200 will be rebranded with the Motorola logo. The eVerge DMR EVX-261 and EVX-S24 are compatible with all Motorola MOTOTRBO digital radios. The last day we can place new orders for Vertex branded equipment is 12/31/17.

MOTOTRBO Network Expands to DelMarVa Peninsula

Wide-area digital 2-way radio communications is now available for commercial business fleets in Delaware and Maryland eastern shore counties. The Mid-Atlantic Digital Radio Network covering most of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, recently added tower sites for the DelMarVa peninsula.

The system utilizes Motorola’s latest MOTOTRBO DMR digital technology that allows wide area roaming, group communications, and no need to change channels..  A business owner can now communicate with trucks anywhere within the digital footprint.

Designed for MOTOTRBO XPR 5000 and XPR 7000 Series

The network supports the Motorola UHF MOTOTRBO XPR 5350 and XPR 5550 mobile radios for company-wide and private call voice communications.  The XPR 5000 series supports the RLN6551 long range wireless speaker-microphone that allows the driver to use his mobile radio from up to 300 feet away from the vehicle. Text messaging, GPS fleet tracking, work order management, and other options can be utilized with this radio.

Distracted driver laws put companies at risk who continue to dispatch their fleet using cell phones. Up to 28 Hours With New Low Voltage IMPRES Technology

Radio users who need maximum talk time will benefit from Motorola’s new low voltage IMPRES technology. The MOTOTRBO enhanced models (XPR 3300e, XPR 3500e, XPR 7350e, XPR 7550e, XPR 7580e) will provide up to 28 hours on a single battery charge. The new batteries are similar in size and use IMPRES chargers.

MOTOTRBO Low Voltage IMPRES Battery Choices

The PMNN4493 is the best choice if you have either XPR 3000e or XPR 7000e and a mix of the older “non-e” models. New enhanced radios are rated at 28 hours in digital mode or 21 hours if still on analog. The battery is compatible with legacy models but at a reduced rating of 18 hours in digital and 13.5 hours when using analog.

Low Voltage UL TIA Intrinsically-Safe Batteries for MOTOTRBO Radios

Low voltage intrinsically-safe batteries are only available for the new enhanced radios and are not interchangeable. Talk time is slightly reduced but still rated for 26+ hours in digital mode. Below are the correct model numbers for each radio:

Low Voltage Battery With Vibrating Silent Alert Belt Clip

Motorola introduced a unique vibrating belt clip that works with the low voltage battery and activates during a call alert. It can be ordered with the clip as a kit or separately and can be used with either the XPR 7000e or the XPR 3000e. Following are the model numbers and links to order:

The FIN ULTRA AMBI is available in small, medium, and large. It can be ordered in clear or black. While attending the last IACP Conference, we visited CTech Manufacturing a supplier of aluminum cabinets for the public-safety market.

We were impressed with their CopBox Tactical Cabinet designed for MID and FULL size SUV’s. There are 16 different standard sizes to choose from or you can design your own. The CopBox has a QuickLink Mounting solution that makes it possible to transfer it to a newer style vehicle in the future. You might have to replace the mounting plate but the cabinet can be reused.

The CopBox is significantly lighter than wood cabinets and their patented MotionLatch allows one-handed drawer opening. It also allows you to access the spare tire in some vehicles and it has a lifetime warranty.

A new wireless speaker-microphone from Earphone Connection can pair with two different compatible Bluetooth radios at the same time. The INTERCEPTOR speaker can receive audio from both radios and the unique dual push-to-talk buttons allow you to respond to either radio’s talkgroup. There is also a 3.5mm earphone jack that supports a headset with boom microphone.

EPC bundles wireless adapters for the INTERCEPTOR for radios without internal Bluetooth. The Motorola XTS 5000 and XTS 2500 (and others with Jedi connector) will work with the INTERCEPTOR-23 bundle. Motorola APX and XPR 6000/7000 users can use the INTERCEPTOR-34.

The INTERCEPTOR-28 bundle supports the Harris M/A-COM Jaguar P5300, P5400, P5500, P7300, XG-15, XG-25, and XG-75 models. State of Delaware Senate Bill 79 Requires Building Interior Test

A State of Delaware Department of Safety and Homeland Security regulation requires all new construction projects over 25,000 square feet be tested for in-building communications. The purpose of the SB79 test is to determine if newly constructed buildings have been designed so that emergency personnel can transmit and receive using portable 2-way radios and the State’s 800 MHz network. The facility owner must have the building tested prior to requesting a certificate of occupancy. The building must have the windows and doors installed before the test can be started.

Ultra Slim, Low Profile, and High Output LED Perimeter Warning Lights

Federal Signal MicroPulse Ultra perimeter LED’s are available in single, split, and dual colors. There are 3, 6, and 12-LED high-power lightheads for increased safety. There is also a wide angle model version that provides a 180 degree light spread. All are suitable for exterior or interior mounting and include a black bezel with wiring harness. If you are upgrading, they are compatible with the original MicroPulse mounts. Optional white or chrome bezels can be ordered if preferred. All MicroPulse Ultra lights are rated IP67, operate with 12-24V DC, and carry a three year warranty.

MicroPulse Ultra  MPS300U With 3-LED Lighthead Is Class 1 Approved

The 3-LED MPS300U is single color and less than 3.5 inches wide. Up to 8 can be synchronized to flash simultaneously or alternating with 18 different flash patterns. The 300U is available in red, blue, amber, and white.

MicroPulse Ultra MPS600U 6-LED Series Available in Split and Dual Color

The MPS600U has 6 high power LED’s and can be ordered with single or split colors. This model can also be ordered with green LED’s or a green/amber split configuration. The dimensions of the 600U are 1.3″ x 5.2″ x .4″ and only draw .79 Amps using 12VDC.

The MPS620U dual color model has 12 high power LED’s in the same low profile form factor. The 620U is available with 6 color combinations: blue/amber, blue/red, blue/white, red/amber, red/white, and white/amber. The lens is clear and draws the same .79 Amps as the 600U.

MicroPulse Ultra MPS1200U 12-LED Series With 25 Flash Patterns

The MPS1200U has 12-LED’s and can be ordered with split colors. There are 25 user selectable flash patterns and 3 flashing modes – top/bottom, left/right, and criss/cross.

Up to 4 units can be synchronized to flash simultaneously or alternating. They are compatible with existing MicroPulse brackets.

The MPS1220U has 24-LED’s and can be ordered with dual colors. It draws about 1.5 Amps at 12V DC and measures 1.91′ x 5.25″ x .45″. Available color combinations are blue/amber, blue/red, blue/white, red/amber, red/white, and white/amber.

MicroPulse Ultra MPSW9 Wide Angle With Single, Split, Dual Colors

For a warning light with a 180 degree light spread for mounting on push bumpers consider the MPSW9 wide angle model. It is available with single, split, and dual color configurations. The lens is made of UV resistant polycarbonate to protect against harsh conditions. All models include a black bezel but an optional chrome bezel is available. Single and dual color MPSW9‘s measure 1.5’ x 5.04″ x 1.48″.

A smaller MPSW6 is also available with single and split colors. Wide Angle lights can be programmed to operate as a single unit or in synchronization with multiple MicroPulse light heads. For faster installations, the Federal Signal PLPR-1 perimeter light programmer has a display to show flash pattern selection and has a capacity of 6 Amps at a time.
